Gold and silver are malleable and ductile, chemically stable by themselves and can be recycled and remodelled into a multitude of items. Gold retains its lustre over prolonged periods and will not chip, flake or corrode. Highly polished silver is the best reflector of light and retains its strength despite distortion. Unfortunately, this does not mean that either of them are indestructible.Gold is measured in carats and is an indication of its purity. Most of us discover the importance of gold ranges when we get married, and the choices are usually from 9 carats (9ct), 18ct, 22ct and 24ct. However, the purer the gold, the softer it is, until, in its purest form of 24 carats, it becomes one of the softest metals known.Purer gold scratches and buckles easily with any kind of abrasion or force and so is best removed to do work which might damage it. Equally, several rings on the same finger can often be the cause of a ring suffering deep scratches or wear, particularly if they are of different carats and perhaps one or more containing even harder substances like diamonds.

Ultrasonic cleaners are useful for jewellery cleaning and removing tarnish. They use ultrasound waves and chemicals combined to create bubbles that "cling" to the foreign particles such as dirt, oil, and unknown substances. The high frequency waves are sent out and pull the contaminants off of the object. the bubbles collapse after they attach to the contaminants and move to the surface of the chemical solution creating what appears to be a boiling solution. You can use a variety of different cleaning products in an ultrasonic cleaner, from regular jewellery cleaner to diluted pine sol (for diamonds ONLY) please remember to rinse your jewellery to remove excess cleaning product, it will eliminate any soap build up left on your jewellery.Bangles, earrings (particularly those manufactured from hollow tubing) and chains should be worn with care in order to avoid surface damage, and should be removed before going to bed. Check for signs of wear and tear regularly, especially on catches and joints. Stone settings can become loose over time, especially if they have been hit against a hard surface or snagged on clothing.

Jewelry can be hard to clean when you use commercial silver paste, plus it makes a mess. There is an easier way. In a glass casserole, line the bottom with aluminum foil. (The aluminum reacts with the silver to help clean it.) Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda, one tablespoon of salt, and then pour in boiling water. Add your silver pieces and let them sit until the water is cool. Rinse well with clear water and buff with a soft cloth. Even the creases and crevices of your silver will be clean and you won't be excessively rubbing the finish so your jewelry will last longer. The best way to keep your pearls clean is to wear them often. The oils from our skin keep them soft and lustrous. However, if you don't get to wear your pearls often, you can keep them in good condition by wiping them with a soft cloth sprinkled with olive oil. Then use a dry cloth to buff them to a gorgeous shineCameos can be delicate, so it is important to clean them correctly. Sprinkle the surface of the cameo with talcum powder or cornstarch. Use a dry toothbrush to lightly brush. Then brush off the excess, rinse, rinse and dry..

The ultrasonic lens cleaner is a system for cleaning any type of contact lens (including clear, colored, and RGP lenses) using ultrasonic vibrations that break up protein, dirt, and any buildup on the lens surface. An amazing thing about this machine is that you don't need any fancy lens solution, like Opti-free or Renu. All you use is saline solution to clean and store lenses. You can find this under the name "physiological solution" at the pharmacy or you can use store-brand saline solution for contact lenses, found next to other lens solutions. I bought mine at Target. Two bottles of saline solution cost about 1/3 the price of one Opti-free and it is much more gentle for your eyes because it doesn't contain any harsh chemicals that disintegrate protein and wear down your lenses over time. It's also fantastic for people with sensitive eyes since saline is very close to natural human tears. For daily use, there is a two-minute setting called "Clean" that cleans the lens. Once a week, you use the 6-minute disinfecting setting called "Strengthen." It's really nice that it takes such a short amount of time to clean since other solutions need 6+ hours to really clean your lenses but if you are up late studying or happen to sleep in your contacts, you can pop these in for two minutes and wear them fresh as new! Apparently, this is the best cleaning solution for lenses. Here is a magnified image of a lens before and after cleaning.

This ultrasonic jewelry cleaner earned The Best rating from the Hammacher Schlemmer Institute because it restored the original luster of jewelry better than any other model. Earrings, rings, and necklaces were soiled with a mixture of hair gel, hand lotion, and dirt and placed in an oven to solidify the detritus. An independent testing laboratory used a scale with an accuracy to 0.0001 grams to weigh each piece after the soiling process and again after one cycle in the ultrasonic cleaners. The Best model removed 99.8% of the debris. The Best Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner uses 42,000 Hz of ultrasonic sound waves and water (detergent is optional) to penetrate deep into crevices and safely and effectively clean intricate areas of bracelets or watchbands. Unlike lesser cleaners, The Best model has an easy-to-follow instruction manual, a crystal clear LED screen with a digital timer, a watch holder, and an easily accessible 18-ounce water reservoir. Sonic Wave Technology. LaSonic features two tanks, one for cleaning and one for rinsing. Each tank independently receives sonic waves, evenly distributing power for thorough cleaning and rinsing

I resorted to cleaning up the outside of the necks with Krazy Kloth or some fine steel wool, or even some Kaboom liquid cleaner on a paper towel. For the inside, I would chuck a worn bronze bore brush in a cordless drill. Lastly, I scraped the primer pocket with a Lee primer pocket cleaner. All this work still left the interior of the case packed with carbon residue. This residue liked to fall out in large flakes during sizing and priming, and was a little disconcerting. Well, all that has changed, and now I save a lot of time and repetitive case handling, and end up with impressively clean cartridge cases. Up until a few months ago, I never gave a second thought to using an ultrasonic cleaner to clean cases. But after seeing several posts on various shooting forums, I got curious and had to try one for myself. It took me a while to find the right procedure and the best "cocktail" of cleaners, but the end result was great. I've concluded that, if you're fussy about your brass, ultrasonic cleaning is well worth the effort
